Next up ‘On the Road’ for the Heed is a 550-mile round trip to Nailsworth, where we take on Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, with a 3:03pm kick off.

Robbie Savage’s side are sitting in third position in the Enterprise National League and have won their last three Enterprise National League fixtures, the most recent being a 4-2 home victory over Tamworth on Tuesday night.

We’ve Met Before

In the most recent meeting between these two sides, Gateshead claimed all three points at The New Lawn in a 3-2 victory.

Jovan Malcolm’s brace put the Heed 2-0 up at half time, before Liam Humbles swept home a third for the rampant Tynesiders.

A George Shelvey own goal reduced the deficit before Christian Doidge prodded home a second in injury time, but the Heed hung on to claim victory in Gloucestershire.

Travel & Ticketing Information

The New Lawn is located within the Cotswold town of Nailsworth, with the nearest railway station being Stroud.

If you’re heading down by rail, our recommended route is to catch a train from Newcastle to London Kings Cross (LNER or Lumo), then catch a Hammersmith & City or Circle line Tube to Paddington, where you can catch a train to Stroud (GWR). From Stroud, Stagecoach West operate hourly bus service 63 to Nailsworth, and it will drop you off within walking distance of the ground.

If you’re driving, Exit the M5 at Junction 13 for Stroud and turn onto the A46 towards Nailsworth. This will bring you into the centre of the town when you reach the Information Centre, take the first right at the mini roundabout into Spring Hill, which goes up a steep hill signposted by Forest Green.

The New Lawn is at the top of this hill. Turn left at the roundabout at the ‘summit’ into the stadium entrance. There is no parking available in the club car park for visiting fans unless you are a blue badge holder who has pre-booked a space.

Forest Green advise supporters to use the Park and Ride facility at Renishaw, South Entrance, Bath Rd, Stroud GL5 5EY – the service costs £5 per car.

Tickets can be purchased online here, with Gateshead supporters housed on the West Side, with both seated and uncovered standing tickets available.

Match Report: Gateshead FC

Gateshead fell to defeat at Forest Green Rovers as three first-half goals from Robbie Savage’s side saw them jump to first in the National League table.

Alun Armstrong made a number of changes due to injury concerns with Ben Williams, Max Melbourne, Jacob Butterfield and Harry Chapman all entering the starting line-up.

That saw Ibrahim Bakare, Joe Grayson, Callum Johnson, Will Flint and Frank Nouble all miss out after being involved in last week’s defeat to Solihull Moors.

Savage’s side, who became league leaders following the result, have lost once at home all season and showed their quality early on.

Rovers took the lead on 13 minutes when Jayden Clarke’s effort was parried out by Tiernan Brooks,  only for Jili Buyabu to slot home the rebound.

The Heed created danger on 18 minutes, when Kian Pennant challenged Forest Green’s goalkeeper, but it wasn’t before long until Armstrong’s side found themselves two down.

Temi Babalola fired into the bottom corner from Nick Haughton’s pass, putting the Greens 2-0 up on 25 minutes.

Babalola nearly made it three just moments later, but David Ferguson was on hand with a timely block to keep the effort out.

As the interval approached, Gateshead grew into the game with Butterfield forcing a big save, before Kain Adom’s strike was tipped onto the crossbar.

However, Forest Green put the nail in the coffin when Clarke fired home on the break to make it 3-0 inside the first 45 minutes.

Brooks was largely to thank for reducing the deficit in the second half, including a fantastic double save on 71 minutes.

There was a late consolation for the visitors, with Butterfield finding the net from distance, but that was all she wrote at The New Lawn with Forest Green climbing to first in the National League table.

Gateshead: Brooks, John, Williams, Melbourne (Lowery 88’), Ferguson, Edwards (Gettins, 79′), Home, Butterfield, Adom (Telford 79’), Chapman (Bone, 88′), Pennant (Hurst 59’).
