Gateshead enter the final 10 games of the National League season when they host Dagenham & Redbridge at Gateshead International Stadium on Tuesday, March 28 (7:45pm kick off).

A 3-2 win at Aldershot Town on Saturday takes The Heed within one point of safety prior to Tuesday’s fixtures, with Yeovil Town sitting in 20th place.

Mike Williamson’s side can move out of the relegation zone with a win or a draw against The Daggers, with Yeovil not in action until Saturday, and could move up to 19th with three points should Dorking lose at home to Southend.

Dagenham & Redbridge could mount a late charge for the play-offs if they can put together a winning run in their final eight fixtures, with seven points separating them from Boreham Wood in seventh.

The visitors arrive on Tyneside under new, yet familiar, management with former player Ben Strevens taking the reins and earning a win and a draw in his opening two fixtures.

February signing Inih Effiong has been in inspired form for The Daggers since arriving from Aldershot Town, netting six goals in 10 league games to take his tally to 20 for the season.

Heed View

“He seems to have backed a few players who were out of favour with the manager previously, and you can see they have that hunger to repay his faith in them,” said Louis Storey.

“We went over the detail we need to and how we’re going to get our strengths and our gameplan out, but we’re focusing on us first of all.”

Match Report: Will Brown

A double from Louis Storey and a slaloming goal from Greg Olley helped Gateshead climb out of the relegation zone at Dagenham & Redbridge’s expense.

Louis Storey found the opener with his bullet header in the 20th minute. The Heed defender was on the score sheet again when his composed finish from 5-yards doubled Gateshead’s lead in the 35th minute.

Greg Olley also was added to the scoresheet with his long-ranged goal in the 67th minute.

Mike Williamson would name a similar team that was seen in the 3-2 victory against Aldershot. After scoring against Aldershot, Adam Campbell would get a well-earned earned rest on the bench. Stephen Wearne would get his first start in a Gateshead in replace of Campbell.

In the 20th minute Gateshead attempted four shots at goal but each attempt was blocked.

Robbie Tinkler played in Marcus Dinanga whose initial shot was saved by Josh Strizovic. The Dagenham goalkeeper then went on to save two consecutive Olley shots before Harry Phipps cleared Connor Pani’s attempt off the line.

Six minutes later Storey found the back of the net to give Gateshead the advantage. A short corner to Olley was whipped towards the back-post which Storey guided home with a perfect headed attempt.

Pani cut inside to beat George Saunders before his shot was curled over the bar in the 27th minute.

Storey found the back of the net again to double Gateshead’s advantage in the 35th. A defensive error from the Daggers allowed Storey to follow up on a loose ball to get an easy finish.

Gateshead hit the post 30 seconds into the second-half. Pani’s flicked header from 30-yards played Olley in one-on-one with Strizovic, but his dragged shot hit the far post.

Marcus Dinanga would hit the other post in the 48th minute. Dinanga would dance his way past the Dagenham defence before his driven shot from 21-yards hit off the post.

Gateshead got their third of the game via Olley in the 67th minute. The Gateshead skipper had lots of work to do after he dribbled past two Daggers defenders before he unleashed a low-driven from outside the box which Strizovic couldn’t react to.
